Breastfeeding Little Edward – Behind the Scenes

breastfeed
I wanted to let you all in on some behind the scenes on my breastfeeding journey!
What a journey it has been ! not “easy” it’s very hard at times, especially while your exhausted and all you want to do is sleep, but you can’t because you have a baby to nurse.
I latched little¬†Edward soon after we welcomed him to the world. He seemed to be a pro. I was not leaking nor was I showing signs of any milk or anything at this point but I latched him on because the nurse said “it might not seem like he is getting enough, but he is. Your babies stomach is the size of a pea so they don’t need much to fill them up”. I then confirmed this with the lactation nurse there at the hospital. Because I felt as though he was not getting enough or any I made a bottle of formula and dripped the milk on my breast as he was latches on to me. This seemed to work and keep him satisfied. I did this up until I actually got my milk in. I was so excited to see that I was producing milk.

How did I find out??¬†I used my breast pump. After finding this out I decided to start eating my lactating cookies I might have done this too early in the game but I just didn’t want my son to not have enough and have to resort to formula so I started eating my Making Mamas Milk cookies. Super delicious, I soon noticed a difference as far as my milk supply went. So to keep it this way I purchased some more cookies to keep my milk supply steady. I am so grateful to have found these cookies as a resource to help me with making milk for my little Edward. It has not been easy I will say that much!! I recently had a clogged duct this happens when your producing milk faster than you’re expressing it out. I didn’t know it was a clogged duct I was assuming the worst like an infection or something. Thankfully I prayed and asked GOD to please take away this feeling, later that night I was reading some articles and came to the conclusion that I may have a clogged duct. So I then did some hot compresses and immediately milk started to come out, I massaged it out and thankfully pain went away!! I was so happy and relieved. I also still have some pain while baby latches on its only in the beginning but it’s slowly subsiding. I can now say I have a steady supply going and I’m super thankful that little Edward is getting his drink on ūüôā¬†¬†the only thing with that is that he also goes through diapers like crazy he pees a lot not sure if I can categorize him as a heavy wetter but pretty close ! I’ve noticed that regular AIO cloth diapers¬†soak up very quickly.¬†So we have been using Thirsties¬†cloth diapers ( hemp prefolds) with Thirsties¬†diaper covers. These seem to work great especially over night with no leaks.

Do you also go through diapers more frequently because you nurse your like “all the time” baby?? ¬†

Fit: I was surprised to see this super squishy fitted, fit my little Edward so well. The sizing was great normally with snapped fitted’s I find the right size in between snaps but that wasnt the case with the Sloomb. It wrapped around his skinny legs so well, it is a bit bulky but I was able to use a regular cover over it.

Absorbency: These squishy sloomb happy little clouds diapers are very absorbent. The materials used organic bamboo fleece is a very absorbent fiber. The fact that the whole diaper is absorbent makes this the perfect nap time or night-time solution. Cloth diapering a newborn is not as easy, as I thought I have found fitted’s to be one of the best options. My son seems to be a heavy wetter and wet through some regular AIO like nothing. So¬†having this beautiful squishy super thirsty sloomb has been amazing and life saver.

Overall : I am in love with our Happy Little Cloud fitted¬†diaper. It is perfect for my little Edward it is simple, absorbent, the fit is awesome. This fitted is currently in our daily rotation for night-time use, because I know it works so well for absorbency I try to save it for night-time stretches. I do change his diaper during the night at least once or¬†twice. Overall this fitted meets all my needs. There is nothing I would change about this fitted except for the fact that if it was waterproof it would be like the “IT” diaper. Love, love, love¬†this fitted for newborns, it is¬†definitely¬†a ‘must have’ diaper in your stash. I love it so much I am going to buy lil bam bam a one size.

Zookaboo Newborn Cover Review #MamasBabe

SewFatty Zookaboo Newborn Cover Review / www.sewfatty.com

SewFatty Zookaboo Newborn Cover Review / www.sewfatty.com

Zookaboo (formly Zookies then Zookiescrafts) is owned by WAHM Michele Zook. Totally amazing woman who makes super cute diaper covers, blankets, shirts, bibs and so much more. I have reviewed her medium diaper cover in the past on my lil bam bam and completely fell in love with it. This time around I reviewed her newly named Zookabum tiny diaper cover.

Let’s talk sushi ?¬†

sewfatty: sushi zookabum diaper cover review www.sewfatty.com

Zookabum Details :

  • Fabric choice is a gorgeous Silly Sushi
  • This is a size XS which fits babies from 7-10 lbs and has a 13″rise.
  • The cover has a double row of crossover snaps and is bound with a soft, white fold over elastic.
  • Diaper cover closures are Snaps or Aplix (the one I chose is snaps)

Little Edward’s Stats:

  • 7lbs 7oz at birth currently 7lbs 11oz
  • Skinny legs.
  • currently I would consider him somewhat of a heavy wetter.
  • worn over umbilical cord and cordless

Handmade diaper cover can be used over any prefold, fitted cloth diaper. It can also be used alone as a swim diaper and it would actually be quite comfortable since the sticky pul is facing outward and the soft side is facing inward. The outer layer is 100% cotton print (you choose from the many fabric selection she has).

Fit: I have to say our Zookabum covers have been on the bum a lot these days. These covers have a great fit and are snug around my lil Edward’s tiny legs. I tried other covers on him and I just cant seem to get a good fit, they are still too big and leave gaps. Which has caused me wet onesis and more diaper changes. No fun! The fit is so awesome at this stage that I just purchased 2 more covers. Cloth diapering a newborn has been a challenge¬†didn’t think I would have any trouble doing so, but I have. I have used these covers with prefolds, fitteds and just lay in inserts. All work amazing, no leaks and great fit and so many whimsical prints to choose from which honestly is the hardest part. What more can I ask for? ¬†Zookabum is definitely a ‘Must Have’ cover for newborns hands down!!

Care Instruction: Machine wash cold or warm; line dry is recommended to extend the life of the cover. Recommend one dryer cycle to seal any holes made in PUL while sewing.

We love our¬†Zookaboo covers so much I just recently purchased another cover for my lil edward in a¬†SewFatty Zookaboo Newborn Cover Review / www.sewfatty.commustache¬†print, and I couldnt help myself today from adding two more covers. ¬†Michele has so many amazing fabric choices it’s a bit hard to just choose one. The diaper covers are made with great detail the fold over elastic is nice and snug and wraps over babies legs nicely without leaving red marks. I love our Zookabum’s I will be adding more to my stash as lil edward grows. Also did I mention that she is always having amazing SALE’s so be sure to check her out.
