DIY Halloween Care Package for Military

Hi guys, I told you I had a couple of affordable care package ideas coming your way so here is this one I just recently made for my boyfriend.

Personally, I love making care packages and getting crafty with them; It’s something I genuinely enjoy doing. You get to show your creativity through each package and also make the person receiving the package smile and feel at home. To me, this is the perfect time to get cheesy and cute. I’m sure most of you can email your loved one daily through email, but don’t let that stop you. My advice for your package would be: do each one as if you haven’t spoken to them in months. So lets get creative guys!

Halloween Care Package-2

With this specific package I wanted to make it as gory as I possibly could. I’m not artist so I just tried my best ha ha. I was able to get every decoration item at my local Dollar Tree and Michaels was having a sale on their colored construction paper and red paint. Also, I didn’t have enough black paper to line the inside of the box, but I did have black spray paint from a previous DIY I had done. I chose not to use a Flat Rate box because my boyfriend had sent me a list of things he would like and it just wouldn’t have fit. If you run across this problem, malls and local stores always have extra boxes lying around. Just be sure to call first thing in the morning.

Here is a list of things you will need:

  • A sturdy box
  • Tape
  • Glue sticks
  • Craft glue like E600 Adhesive -Wal-Mart
  • Construction paper or Scrapbook paper-Dollar Tree or Micheals)
  • Scissors
  • Paint (Red) -Wal-Mart
  • Spray Paint (I prefer this over construction paper for the inside)
  • Spider Rings- Dollar Tree
  • Plastic Severed Body Parts- Dollar Tree
  • Spider Webs – Dollar Tree
  • Caution Tape- Dollar Tree

This care package was so super easy I almost felt like the instructions were unnecessary so I added tips I learned while making this box.

 Let the Halloween box begin:

  1. Spray the inside of the box with the black spray paint. Once you’ve sprayed it to the intensity of your liking, go ahead and let that completely dry. I chose to let it sit out for a whole day so the smell could go away as well.Halloween Care Package
  2. Grab your red paint and do the fancy ‘blood drippings’. I found it was easier to paint the top half with brush and then to do the actual blood drops with my fingers. I also applied about a courter-sized drop of paint each time I went in to do a blood dropping.
  3. Once the paint has completely dried, pull out your ring spiders and cut off the ring part to them so you can glue that nicely down. Get an idea and start gluing, girl! I recommend for the severed body parts go in the bottom flaps or you might have a hard time taping your box shut. Also, with this particular glue I found its best if you let it get tacky so blow on it or let it sit for a couple of seconds.
  4. Place all of the items you will be sending and put the spider webs over.
  5. Throw all of the left over spiders over the spider web.
  6. Tape your caution tape across your box (I’ve seen people tape them across flaps as well.

Just like that, you are all done ladies! I honestly had so much fun with this box and I hope you do too. If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know in the comments below. I hope you enjoyed making this with me and may you and your loved ones have a safe and spooky Halloween, muahahahaha!

If you guys try this out, please tag us using #SewfattyDIY so we can see your creative rendition on this box.

-Xoxo

DIY Fabric Washi Tape

Do It Yourself Fabric Washi Tape www.sewfatty.com

My friend Benetta recently sent me happy mail she included some of her super cute washi tape. I was totally hooked. So I’ve started making washi to use for gifts and recently for Christmas. So here I am showing you how to make your very own from scraps of fabric you may have laying around.

Things you’ll need : Do It Yourself Fabric Washi Tape www.sewfatty.com

  • fabric choice / fabric scraps ( you want to make sure your fabric is nice and ironed. If not, you’ll have wrinkled washi)
  • double sided adhesive tape ( carpet tape is another choice)
  • scissors/ rotary cutter

How to make Washi-AWESOMENESS :

  • apply one side of your tape onto fabric and press firmly
  • grab your scissors/rotary cutter and cut your strips.
  • when ready to use, you can cut your long strip in small pieces.
  • peel the back and use on whatever your heart desires.

What to use washi tape on ?
gift wrapping, scrapbooking, crafts, the possibilities are endless.
