Breastfeeding Little Edward – Behind the Scenes

breastfeed
I wanted to let you all in on some behind the scenes on my breastfeeding journey!
What a journey it has been ! not “easy” it’s very hard at times, especially while your exhausted and all you want to do is sleep, but you can’t because you have a baby to nurse.
I latched little Edward soon after we welcomed him to the world. He seemed to be a pro. I was not leaking nor was I showing signs of any milk or anything at this point but I latched him on because the nurse said “it might not seem like he is getting enough, but he is. Your babies stomach is the size of a pea so they don’t need much to fill them up”. I then confirmed this with the lactation nurse there at the hospital. Because I felt as though he was not getting enough or any I made a bottle of formula and dripped the milk on my breast as he was latches on to me. This seemed to work and keep him satisfied. I did this up until I actually got my milk in. I was so excited to see that I was producing milk.

How did I find out?? I used my breast pump. After finding this out I decided to start eating my lactating cookies I might have done this too early in the game but I just didn’t want my son to not have enough and have to resort to formula so I started eating my Making Mamas Milk cookies. Super delicious, I soon noticed a difference as far as my milk supply went. So to keep it this way I purchased some more cookies to keep my milk supply steady. I am so grateful to have found these cookies as a resource to help me with making milk for my little Edward. It has not been easy I will say that much!! I recently had a clogged duct this happens when your producing milk faster than you’re expressing it out. I didn’t know it was a clogged duct I was assuming the worst like an infection or something. Thankfully I prayed and asked GOD to please take away this feeling, later that night I was reading some articles and came to the conclusion that I may have a clogged duct. So I then did some hot compresses and immediately milk started to come out, I massaged it out and thankfully pain went away!! I was so happy and relieved. I also still have some pain while baby latches on its only in the beginning but it’s slowly subsiding. I can now say I have a steady supply going and I’m super thankful that little Edward is getting his drink on 🙂  the only thing with that is that he also goes through diapers like crazy he pees a lot not sure if I can categorize him as a heavy wetter but pretty close ! I’ve noticed that regular AIO cloth diapers soak up very quickly. So we have been using Thirsties cloth diapers ( hemp prefolds) with Thirsties diaper covers. These seem to work great especially over night with no leaks.

Do you also go through diapers more frequently because you nurse your like “all the time” baby??

Happy Little Llama – Nursing Pads Review

SewFatty: Happy Little Llama Reusable Nursing Pads Review.

As many of you may know I plan on breastfeeding my little Edward. I’ve learned from support groups I’m in that nursing pads are a MUST HAVE while breastfeeding. So can you say let the nursing pad stash begin 🙂

Holly the WAHM behind Happy Little Llama makes these super squishy nursing pads. They come in this cute mesh baggie with a care card attached.

Why I like Happy Little Llama Nursing Pads :  SewFatty: Happy Little Llama Reusable Nursing Pads Review.

  • 2 layers of organic bamboo fleece, topped with organic bamboo velour. — I love natural fibers
  • Super soft against your skin — who doesn’t love soft material on them 🙂
  • They are supposed to keep my shirts dry  — my boobs will be leaky, not wanting to have any accidents.

Overall I believe these nursing pad’s will do their job. They are nicely sewed or should I say serged, they are super comfortable. They are a bit noticeable, but if wearing a bra that has a bit of padding you wont really be able to notice. They wash well, I washed them to prep them so when baby comes they are all set to go. As far as absorbency I cant really say just yet, this is still so new to me, so I will update you on this one.

**Update**

Hey mamas so I now that I have my ittle Edward here with me. I had to update you all on these nursing pads. I’ve been a leaky mom these days. I am still loving these nursing pads they absorb well. The only thing I would change about them is I would love to have a waterproof barrier, there are some nights that I wake up to a drenched bra {no fun}. Other then that they are perfect I need to add some more to my stash. You can never have too many nursing pads 🙂

Making Mamas Milk Lactating Cookies Review #MamasBabe

As some may know I am on a mission, to make some more “liquid gold” for my little Edward. I decide to try lactating cookies. Some moms say they work and some say they really don’t notice a difference. My question to them is have you tried “Making Mamas Milk Lactating Cookies”?

Making Mamas Milk is owned by Dori she is a WAHM of 5 kids, that understands other mothers desire to be able to breastfeed and provide milk for their babies. That’s why Dori came up with the best recipe to help mother’s boost their milk supply for their babies in a form of a Cookie! By far “The Best” cookie I have tasted ! Making Mamas Milk uses nothing but the BEST ingredients ALL organicALL 100% dairy free. A combination of Fenugreek, Flax Seed, Brewers Yeast, Whole rolled Oats, Whole Wheat Flour is what makes these cookie’s boost your milk supply and of course all the LOVE Dori put’s into every batch she makes.

Sewfatty: Making Mama's Milk Lactating Cookies Review/ www.sewfatty.com

Making Mamas Milk cookies come in 4 different flavors Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Butterscotch, Oatmeal Pumpkin Spice. I have tasted 3 out of the 4 and I will say they are AMAZING. I chew them forever to savor the flavor, they are that good. I drink plenty of water while I eat them which is also recommended. These cookies are so moist, the flavor is just to die for. These cookies can be frozen and taken out as you eat them. Some say “they wont taste the same” well I am here to tell you. “Yes” they do taste just the same as they did when first out the oven. My cookies have been frozen over a month and half and I must say they still taste amazing, fresh, and are moist. This is the difference when buying from a handmade business to a factory business. Handmade is always better 🙂 So not only are they amazingly tasty, but do they work? Yes Yes Yes !!! They have boosted my milk supply like crazy little Edward has been getting so full he actually spits up some after feedings which is something he wasn’t doing before then again I am being a chubby bunny and eating 2 cookies a day. I am still having some painfulness while latching on. I spoke with the breastfeeding counselor she said’s I am doing everything correct, that my nipples just have to toughen up which will happen in a few weeks. Not really sure what that means, I’m just praying the pain goes away. Until then I will deal with it and keep on eating my super amazing cookies to be able to provide my little Edward with the “liquid gold”. Lastly I want to say that I love these cookies so much I bought 20 more cookies from Dori and I also bought some from Up On the Hill and will continue to buy them. Dori has amazing customer service and if you have not tried these cookies please be sure to do so. They are delicious, great price compared to “other companies” and knowing you are helping another WAHM takes the prize for me. I support WAHM 100%.
