Avoiding Summer Bugs

Summer time bugs can be very annoying. When we lived in Texas, we battled with mosquitos. Those pesky things were so huge and we would wake up with so many bites. Seriously, ridiculous! I learned a few tips from my fellow “crunchy friends” on how to avoid these bugs. Here they are:

  • plant neem, citronella, marigold or garlic in your garden/ balcony/ patio to put mosquios off, they do not like the smell of these plants.
  • Close doors and windows in your house early, use nets along the windows to prevent the mosquitoes from entering your house. (When opening the door to exit, have a fly swatter ready to kill any that have entered.) Make sure your kids apply mosquito repellent before they step out of the house. One of my favorite Natural Repellent is by “BalmBaby – Shue Bug!”
  • Apply these essential oils; either on the skin, clothes, bed sheets { lavender oil, soya oil, citronella, lemon and eucalyptus, peppermint} All are known for their mosquito repellent.
  • Mosquitos do not like the smell of peppermint, so you can crush up the leaves and rub it on your skin to ward them off.
  • Make sure there is no “sitting water” Mosquitos are attracted to humidity, water. So keep any sitting water away from your home.

I hope that my tips help you with Summer Bugs. Be sure to check out facts on mosquitos, super interesting.

Happy Summer. Enjoy. Stay away from Bugs 🙂

Living life in San Diego

Our Home in Kingsville, Texas

Our Home in Kingsville, Texas

As many of you may know. We are now living in San Diego, CA. It has been such an amazing transition from Texas to California as far as the wheather goes and just being able to do more things. Kingsville, TX was a super small town that didn’t really have much to offer. However, the three years that we lived there my husband and I grew very close to each other making our marriage grow into what it is, today. Those 3 years were amazing, we were able to have him home with us every single day, we welcomed our two boys into this world. Kingsville was a great town for us to bond and work on US. Texas will always hold a special place in my heart for that.

Now, that we are in San Diego. Reality of military life has hit hard in our home.  Hubby has already gone on a 13 day underway and now is gone for a few months with a forecast of more months ahead. I know that it’s really hard for us right now because   for the last 3 years we had him home with us. Now the times have changed and sadness has hit me hard. I know, I will be fine and learn to coupe with it, but for now I do get depressed and it is hard. I know that GOD has big plans for us and our family and thats what keeps me going. I am keeping busy with our three munchkins. I am still not done unpacking, so that’s still in the works. As well as a DIY Outdoor Pallet Couch. In which I am super excited to share with you all. If you have an Instagram be sure to follow me at @sewfatty. I will be posting updates.

How do you fuel your body? Let’s talk Stonyfield.

I’ve been on a workout kick these days. Now, that we are living in San Diego, I see life in a different way. (kinda crazy but, like my husband said ” the location of where you live, just changes the outlook you have on life” and I can honestly say; It has proven to be, true for me. The beautiful weather here, just motivates me to be healthy, fit and just love being out and about. I didn’t feel this way in Texas so its such a great feeling for me.

What fuels me ?  Stonyfield Greek Yogurt makes a great post workout snack. I can indulge in a flavored yogurt and not feel guilty. I can also take it on the go, as well as cooking with it. I can also give it to my kids (whom love, love it)

Greek Yogurt gives me that energy before and after the gym. Makes my bones stronger. Why? would I not want to have some amazing Stonyfield Yogurt? 🙂 It’s a great substitution for sour cream, milk.

It feels great to eat clean, I feel energized and I can honestly say I am super happy about myself and just life. (we are what we eat)

Did you know that, Stonyfield was the official sponsor for the Boston Marathon? Little Edward holding his Yummy StonyField Yogurt

  • They sent 10 runners who just missed the cut off due to this year’s large amount of sign ups
  • Handing out hundreds of thousands of cups of organic yogurt on race day – to runners, their families, volunteers, etc

It was so awesome to see the official logo to the Boston Marathon on our yogurts.

Life can get hectic and stressful. Just remember that feeling great about yourself is what will keep you going. Stonyfield helps me, stay healthy, fit and motivated.
